Our Philosophy

Why we do what we do

Each year, hundreds of students in Montreal graduate from professional theatre programs like John Abbott and Dawson Colleges and Concordia University only to face dismal employment prospects.  Something has to be done, and quickly, if there is ever to be a viable performing arts sector for these individuals and groups.

The Centre for Education and Theatre in Montreal (CETM) believes that the best way to have a local live arts industry is to create one.  This means helping the producers of tomorrow to develop meaningful skills that will allow them to truly succeed in the real world.  It also means targeted marketing efforts designed to build and educate audiences as well.

We believe that through proper training, mentorship and sound business management, we can transform and enhance the local cultural scene.  We can create a model for artists based on self-sufficiency and diversification of activities instead of condemning them to the dead end of poverty and a monotonous cycle of grant applications.
